The Groundbreaking Ceremony for Teneo and SEED Madagascar’s new school build project in Mahatalaky is complete!
In Malagasy culture, construction can’t begin without this significant spiritual ritual, ensuring the ancestors’ blessings on the project. The ceremony was attended by SEED Madagascar’s WASH, Education & Infrastructure team, local leaders, and community members. As shown in the photo, a team member dug the first hole at the sacred northeastern corner, where the Chef Fokontany of Mahatalaky offered a blessing to the ancestors by pouring traditional Malagasy rum into the ground. This was followed by the first stones and concrete being laid, officially marking the start of the build.
This ceremony not only honors tradition but also strengthens the bond between SEED and the community. With the groundwork now blessed, we’re excited to move forward with the construction, bringing new opportunities for education in Mahatalaky.
