In rural Antahovary, Madagascar, 250 children are one step closer to having a safe place to learn again. Since their original school was lost to fire in 2021, this community has been without a permanent classroom. That’s why Teneo is proud to partner with SEED Madagascar to build a new, cyclone-resistant school complete with classrooms, sanitation facilities, a 10,000-litre rainwater harvesting system, and solar power.
Progress hasn’t been easy – flooded roads and a collapsed storeroom could’ve halted construction. Instead, the team built rafts to float in materials and a custom shelter to keep breezeblock production on track. Foundations are now complete, walls are rising, and roofing is underway.
377 Moringa trees have also been planted, helping offset carbon and support school meals. WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) education will soon resume, ensuring health and hygiene knowledge stays long after the build is finished.
This project is part of Teneo’s Purpose Beyond Profit commitment to improve the lives of 1 million children through education.
Thank you SEED Madagascar and the local community for your incredible determination and resilience.
